It begins
The Colorado Potters Guild show opens today at First Plymouth in Englewood, and it is the show where the novella opens too. A few words on the show, on years at the wheel in Denver, and on Saturday, when they meet.

0:00Yay, it's Thursday, it's the 5th of November, and today is the opening of the Colorado Potters Guild show at First Plymouth, at the corner of Colorado Boulevard and East Hampden. This is down in Englewood.
0:21This show is where my novella opens. Aimee is a potter who is a member of the guild and who does this show every year. And it takes place right now. So get down there, go visit, go check out the pottery. I can't be there. I'm in Spain this year. So if you're there, buy something cool, share it, post it on my Facebook.
0:53I'm so excited. This is the beginning. This is the prequel to the Festival Arts Series, and it's all about the lives of potters and other types of artists, and I'm so excited to share these characters with you.
1:11I have been doing pottery since the earliest days, back when I was in university in California in the late 80s or early 90s, and I loved it. I was no good at production pottery. I always did crazy one-off things. I knew how to run every kiln in the yard and do all kinds of different glazing techniques, but I couldn't make everything the same for the life of me. I did terrible at building ten bowls and ten mugs and ten plates and all the things that you're supposed to learn how to do precisely.
1:53It's not to say I haven't done plenty of bowls, mugs and plates. I had a studio in my house in Denver for a lot of years. I had a kiln back in the shed in my backyard. Before that I had studio space at a lovely studio on Welton Street, up near Five Points. And before that I did jewelry, and I actually was somebody who did a couple of art festivals, and I've been around art festivals for a long, long time.
2:23My aunt is a working artist and does festivals all over the country, and I've been to many shows with her and helped her set up. And of course Denver is the home of Cherry Creek Arts Festival, one of the biggest shows in the country.
2:42That's a little insight into what's coming next. But this is the beginning, and this is the show, so get yourself down there and enjoy it. Enjoy it for me, since I can't be there. And I look forward to talking to you. Well, I'll be talking to you again on Saturday, because that is the day it really begins. Because that is when they meet. So until then.
