Alexa Camden is a pen name. Everything else here is true.
I've spent a big part of my life around art festivals: the early load-ins, the canopies that never go up the same way twice, the conversations in booth twelve at four in the afternoon when nobody's buying.
I grew up around working artists and never quite left. Along the way I built a long career in technology and business, which taught me a great deal about how people make decisions and almost nothing about how they fall in love. For years I kept choosing tech and business. Lately I've been choosing differently: more songs, these books, and more time for the creative work I kept putting off.
I write about people I'd want to sit next to at dinner, and a few I'd want to watch from across the room.
I write romance because I like people, especially complicated ones. I'm interested in why they do what they do: what they want, what they've been through, the work they've done on themselves, and the distinctions they carry into every conversation. My characters make choices you might not make, for reasons that make sense once you're inside their heads. They're funny, stubborn and occasionally wrong. They still get their happy ending, because I think optimism is part of the point.
I write by talking. Most stories start as voice memos, recorded in cars, kitchens and, once, a London coffee shop. I keep talking after the books are done, too: on Perspectives I talk through the characters and answer what readers send me.
If you've read one of my books and saw it differently than I did, I'd love to hear about it.
Hear about the next book first.
Release news, the occasional letter from me, and new Perspectives reflections when they're ready. I only send something when there's something worth sending.
